about

This is a limited 200 copies edition available in September, during the summer special price for pre-orders.

Tokyo's reigning kings and queen of roots-infused power pop Beat Caravan are set to release their second full-length album "Odd Harmony" this September on Spain's Sunny Day Records. Like their first album "On Parade," released in 2010 on Japan's Power Elephant label, "Odd Harmony" is a collection of tight, well-crafted tunes that go all over the map of rock and roll, from harmony-drenched pop gems to raunchy r'n'r rave-ups. And just like the first album, you'll want to spin it again as soon as the last song fades out.

It's rare when you find a band that takes the whole cosmic mish-mash of rock, pop and roots, and can condense it into twelve tunes. It's even rare to find a band today that "gets" rock and roll and can harness it to create something totally new and unique. Beat Caravan does both.

The album kicks off with the southern fried "Lady Queen" with its chicken scratch guitar, and then floats into the lush melody of "Black Tea Eyes." What follows are 10 more nuggets of pure pop perfection that run the gamut from the dirty swamp thump of "Robbers" to the tender ballad "Wish You Really Knew Me." It wraps up with an updated version of "Blowing Away," a live set favorite that appeared on a previous EP.

The tunes here are flavored with ample doses of Alex Chilton, NRBQ and the Incredible Casuals, along with hints of the band's other wide-ranging influences which include the Modernettes, Doug Sahm, the Kinks, Ray Charles, Todd Rundgren and the Beatles. It's all about song-craft with Beat Caravan and more than the great playing, it's the songs that stay with you after the record is over.

Beat Caravan started with Shooge (vocals, guitar) and Miho (bass, vocals) in the late 1990s. They added Matt (drums) from the power pop band More Fun in 2001 and finally rounded out the lineup with Bob (guitar, vocals) a few years later. After releasing two EPs (on Popball and Target Earth respectively), they put out their first full-length "On Parade" on Power Elephant Records in 2010. Over the years, they've opened for Nikki & the Corvettes, the Modernettes, the Stems, the Incredible Casuals and more. Beat Caravan's sound is unique, especially in Tokyo, and they've built a loyal following of country rock and power pop fans.
